About Ramaraju Surgical

The Ramaraju Surgical Cotton Mills Ltd (RSCM), Rajapalayam, is one of the founding companies of the Ramco group and the country's oldest producer of absorbent surgical cotton. Today most of its revenue comes from cotton and blended yarn spun at units around Rajapalayam and Andipatti, with surgical dressings, a small weaving operation and wind-energy generation making up the rest. It also holds long-standing investments in other Ramco group companies.

Revenue has run at roughly ₹450-550 Cr a year through the cotton cycle, but margins are thin: high cotton prices and weak yarn realisations pushed the mill to losses in FY24, and profitability remains marginal. Net worth of a few hundred crore and inter-group holdings support the balance sheet, while borrowings fund working capital and modernisation.

The company was formerly listed on the Madras Stock Exchange and now trades only in the unlisted market. Shareholding is dominated by the Ramco promoter family and group companies, with a long tail of public holders from the original listing. P.R. Venketrama Raja chairs the board and P.V. Abinav Ramasubramaniam Raja is Managing Director.
