About Auckland Jute

Auckland Jute Co. Limited is a small unlisted public company registered at the Auckland Jute Mills compound in Jagatdal, North 24 Parganas, on the Hooghly jute belt north of Kolkata. Despite the name, it is not the operating mill: the original Auckland Jute Company was amalgamated into Auckland International Limited (CIN L36934WB1977PLC031184) in 1980, and it is Auckland International that runs the 100-tonne-a-day sacking and canvas mill and appears in the Jute Commissioner's B-twill allocation lists. The present company was incorporated on 22 July 1991 and functions as a group investment vehicle — registry aggregators describe a hybrid operational and investment-driven structure whose income is mostly dividend and interest, with a small solar-plant income line.

The balance sheet confirms that character. At 31 March 2025 the company had total assets of about ₹30.35 Cr, of which non-current investments were about ₹27.83 Cr (up from ₹23.89 Cr a year earlier); cash fell from about ₹3.99 Cr to ₹0.85 Cr as money was moved into investments. There are no borrowings in the extracted balance sheet. Share capital is ₹2.745 Cr — 27,45,380 shares of ₹10 — against authorised capital of ₹2.75 Cr, and reserves were about ₹27.22 Cr, giving a book value of roughly ₹109 a share. Promoters hold 17,80,880 shares (64.87%).

Earnings are driven by the portfolio, not operations. In FY25 revenue from operations was only about ₹0.18 Cr while other income (dividends, interest, solar) was about ₹1.34 Cr, down from ₹2.19 Cr in FY24; profit after tax fell to about ₹0.74 Cr (EPS ₹2.70) from ₹1.55 Cr (EPS ₹5.66). The board is small and non-executive: Uttam Kumar Bothra and Manak Chand Parakh as non-executive directors and Prakash Kumar Bothra as a non-executive independent director; Baby Bothra sits on the board of Auckland International, which is the visible link between the two companies.

Rate used: UnlistedZone's page for Auckland Jute shows an indicative price of ₹189 per share, but that figure is dated 3 November 2021 and UnlistedZone itself labels it an indicative level for information only. The only recent dealer print found is wwipl.com's last traded price of ₹35 on 16 March 2026 (52-week range ₹35–35, implied market cap ₹9.61 Cr). This profile lists the share at the UnlistedZone rate of ₹189 as requested, with the ₹35 print recorded as the 52-week low; the two differ more than five-fold and the user should decide which to display.

Valuation at the listed rate: ₹189 × 0.2745 Cr shares is a market capitalisation of about ₹51.9 Cr — roughly 70 times FY25 earnings and 1.7 times book value for a company whose entire value is its investment book. At wwipl's ₹35 the same shares are worth ₹9.6 Cr, 13 times earnings and 0.32 times book, which is the usual discount for closely held investment companies with no dividend record found. The underlying investments are not itemised in the sources, so the look-through value of the portfolio (which may include group jute-mill shares) is unknown.

Verification status (10 Oct 2026): CIN, incorporation date, registered office, RoC, authorised and paid-up capital, ISIN, directors and the promoter holding are registry-sourced (InsiderBiz, Tofler, InstaFinancials, Precize snippets). FY24 and FY25 revenue, other income, profit, EPS, investments, reserves, cash and total assets are from the standalone statements reproduced on wwipl.com (in ₹ hundreds, converted here). Expense lines, tax, depreciation, fixed assets, cash flows, headcount and the FY24 revenue line are estimates. No company website, annual report or dividend history was found; the ISIN and lot size should be confirmed with the dealer.

Products & services

Solar plant

Small solar installation whose generation income appears as a separate line in other income.

What works

  • • Debt-free balance sheet: about ₹30 Cr of assets, ₹27.8 Cr of it long-term investments, with no borrowings in the extracted accounts and reserves of ₹27 Cr on ₹2.75 Cr of capital.
  • • Book value of roughly ₹109 a share versus a last traded dealer print of ₹35 — a deep discount to book if the ₹35 print is the real market.
  • • Promoter-controlled (64.87%) group company embedded in the Auckland jute-mill group at Jagatdal, one of the older operating jute mills on the Hooghly.
  • • Steady, if small, profits from dividends, interest and a solar plant: ₹1.55 Cr in FY24 and ₹0.74 Cr in FY25 with no operating leverage or inventory risk.

What to watch

  • • The UnlistedZone rate of ₹189 is dated November 2021; the only recent print is wwipl's ₹35 (March 2026). At ₹189 the share trades at about 70 times FY25 earnings and 1.7 times book — a buyer paying the listed rate may be overpaying by a wide margin.
  • • Earnings depend entirely on investment income, which halved in FY25 (other income ₹1.34 Cr versus ₹2.19 Cr); the portfolio is not itemised, so concentration in group or illiquid holdings cannot be ruled out.
  • • Tiny float and no dividend record found: 27.45 lakh shares, 64.87% with promoters, a 52-week range of ₹35–35 on wwipl, and an AGM record that aggregators last show in 2021 — liquidity and disclosure are thin.
  • • Name confusion with Auckland International Limited, the actual mill operator (a separate, exchange-registered company with its own ISIN INE907C01022); make sure the dealer is transferring INE02UQ01019.
